How to Use This Site
Alternative Health is a product evaluation platform. We score products using COA lab data where available and ingredient-level analysis where it is not. Products without COAs are flagged because if a company has not verified what is in its product, you are taking its label on faith.
Our Approach
What makes this platform differentMost health websites rank products based on subjective reviews, commission incentives, or manufacturer relationships. We rank products based on what is actually in them.
Alternative Health exists because the systems meant to protect your health -- the FDA, the EPA, product labels, marketing claims -- contain significant gaps in coverage and enforcement. Where COAs exist, we decode them. Where they do not, we evaluate based on ingredient lists, published specifications, third-party testing data, and manufacturer transparency.
A product without a COA is not necessarily unsafe, but it is unverified -- and we flag that distinction in every evaluation. For categories like air purifiers, lighting, and EMF shielding, evaluation is based on performance specifications and independent testing rather than contaminant COAs. The framework adapts to the category, but the standard is consistent: what does the evidence show, and can you verify it?
We rank every product we evaluate, but we also distinguish trust tiers. COA-verified rankings sit at the top. Evidence-based watchlists are useful, but they are not equivalent.
The Sequence
Why the order mattersMost people start with supplements. That is usually backwards. Environmental exposures often drive the symptoms people try to “supplement away.” The order we recommend is based on leverage: water first, then home environment, then food, then supplements, then protocols.
Fixing your water changes every glass you drink, every meal you cook, every shower you take, and every ice cube in your freezer. Fixing your home environment changes every breath you take and every hour you sleep. Food comes next, then supplements, then structured protocols.
Fix Your Water
The single highest-leverage health intervention available to most people
Your body is 60% water. The quality of that solution is not a secondary variable. It is the primary one. What people consistently discover when they fix their water is broad: skin improves, brain fog lifts, gut issues calm down, and chemical exposures drop.
This is why water is Step 1. It touches every system in your body through drinking, cooking, showering, ice, and the water your food is grown with.
1. Test your water
Start with data. A mail-in lab test turns general advice into specific action.
2. Filter your drinking water
Choose a filter based on your actual contaminants, not generic marketing.
3. Address your shower
Chlorine and chloramine exposure through hot showers is real and often ignored.
4. Switch to glass
If buying bottled water, move from plastic to glass to cut microplastic exposure.
Fix Your Home Environment
The air you breathe, the fields you sleep in, the light you’re exposed to
Air Quality
Indoor air is often 2-5x more polluted than outdoor air. PM2.5, VOCs, mold, and combustion gases affect respiratory and cardiovascular health.
EMFs & Lighting
EMFs, evening blue light, and flicker are invisible variables with biological effects that most people never measure.
The home environment step involves assessment first, remediation second — just like water. You cannot fix what you have not measured. Air quality monitors, EMF meters, and light analysis reveal what’s actually present in your home.
Fix Your Food
Contaminants in what you eat, and how to source around them
Food contamination mirrors water: the regulatory system provides a floor, not a ceiling. Heavy metals in baby food, glyphosate in grains, PFAS in packaging, and fraud in oils and honey all matter.
Sea salt carries different risks than mined salt. Chocolate has a cadmium problem. Olive oil fraud is real, but more nuanced than social media says. The only way through it is category-specific evidence.
Supplements
After the foundation is set, not before
Supplements are where most people start and overspend. Once water, environment, and food are cleaner, targeted supplementation can actually work on a better substrate.
We track label accuracy, third-party verification, bioavailability, filler profiles, and contamination risk. No public COA means lower trust by default.
Protocols & Practices
Structured interventions built on the foundation
Protocols are Step 5 for a reason. Fasting on contaminated water, detoxing while maintaining exposures, or treating gut issues without fixing the inputs is backwards.
Once the foundation is clean, protocols like water fasting, heavy metal detox, gut healing, and mold illness recovery become much more meaningful.

Find Your Path
Common starting pointsConcerned Parent
“Is the baby food I’m buying safe?”
Start with the baby food watchlist, then move into lead and arsenic profiles, then product swaps.
Health Optimizer
“I want the cleanest stack possible.”
Start with water, then filtration, then supplements and protocols after the foundation is clean.
The Rabbit Hole
“I just learned about PFAS and now I’m questioning everything.”
Start with one contaminant, then follow the links into products, guides, and related research.
The Regular
“This is my favorite site. I’m here all the time.”
Use the community as your return point, then dive into products, research, and protocols from there.
